Using treats to reward your dog

Furrito pehmed lambaliharibad 75 g – tootepilt ilma pakendita

Treats can help your dog understand which behaviour you want to see again. The most useful reward is one your dog enjoys and can eat quickly enough to stay engaged with you.

Prepare small rewards before you start

Set aside a modest portion for the session. Try dividing a Furrito soft lamb strip or beef strip into suitable pieces, or check whether chicken or duck cubes can be made smaller. Only use pieces your dog can comfortably eat; avoid hard fragments and crumbs that are awkward to handle.

Reward the behaviour as it happens

Say your chosen marker word, such as “yes,” when your dog does the right thing, then offer the treat. Practice one simple skill at a time: coming when called, looking at you or settling on a mat. Keep sessions short and finish while your dog is still interested.

Adjust to the setting

A familiar reward may work well at home but attract less attention outdoors. Try a quieter spot before increasing the number of treats. Give your dog time to sniff and take breaks.

Count rewards as part of the day

Training treats count towards the daily treat allowance. You can also use part of your dog's usual food ration if they find it rewarding. For dogs that enjoy play, a short game with a suitable PuppyToys toy can add variety.
